Looks like we’re stuck with Alex Vella. Let’s hope the police here have a contingency plan.
When an Italian Mafia man living in Malta was wanted for trial in Sicily and extradited, the press made a big meal of it and the police treated us to a video which included them blaspheming as they searched his flat.
But now we have a criminal who’s actually in the international news because he’s trying to leave Malta for his home country but his home country doesn’t want him and so he’s struck here campaigning to get out, and the Maltese press think it isn’t a story at all while the police say nothing – maybe because nobody’s asked them.
So we have to read about the biker criminal in our midst in the British and Australian news instead. It looks like we’re stuck with this tubby nasty because Australia has cancelled his visa and absolutely does not want him back. What was Alex Vella doing in Malta anyway? His family migrated en masse in the 1960s, and he with them.

Poor chap how unfortunate. If only Australia walked in Joseph`s slippery footsteps, this chap would have been able to buy a passport, if only he could afford it. Otherwise he has no alternative but to lick the dust and bite his nails.
Does he know anything about building power stations?
Maybe Joe Mizzi could take him on as part of his team of bright bulbs.
He could be given a substantial salary to look for garages to park his many bikes in.
He’s quite sorted in Malta . With a background like his he could become a politician here.
Has he been found guilty or accused of any crimes in Malta or in Australia?
Oh. They know he’s here alright. He featured heavily in the President’s bike ride footage on TVM.
Just saw this comment after posting mine below. So are we to now assume that the president is accepting what probably is, ultimately, criminal money for the L-Istrina campaign?
Perhaps someone might take notice if Alex Vella stumbles upon a cavernous pit accompanied by some peculiar rats.
Franco Debono can hire him as his bodyguard at the taxpayer’s expense.
What are the chances that he took part in the President’s charity motorcycle/bike ride some two weeks ago?
What are the chances that the ride was designed for this person’s ultimate benefit, in terms of “positive” exposure and footage potential?
Wouldn’t inclusion in a President’s bike ride, with her blessing, be good YouTube material for a counter-objection in his case preparation?
Ideal candidate for running our bus service. Sack Mizzi and put Vella in charge.
I can’t understand why he did not apply for an Australian passport.
I got my British passport after living over 10 years in the UK, I could not get it earlier because I would have lost my Maltese citizenship.
Welcome to gangsters’ paradise.
