THE POLICE MINISTER IS A LIAR. I NEVER HAD A PROTECTION OFFICER, LET ALONE AN ARMED ONE.

Published: November 24, 2014 at 8:33pm
THIS MAN IS LYING SCUM.

THIS MAN IS LYING SCUM.

The Police Minister has just said in parliament that I had armed protection by the police.

LIAR. BLOODY, BLOODY LIAR. My God, what scum. It is just unbelievable.

This man is lying all over town. And he is not only a minister of state. He is Minister of the Interior.

I NEVER HAD POLICE OR ARMY PROTECTION, ARMED OR OTHERWISE. ON THE CONTRARY, WHEN OUR HOME WAS SET ON FIRE, THE FIRST SUSPECTS WERE MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES OF MALTA.

Has anybody ever seen me with a protection officer either at my side or driving me around or driving after me? No. Because there never was one.

I repeat: LIAR. The Police Minister is lying scum.

There were two brief periods when our HOME (by no means me) had an unarmed police constable stationed at the gate ONLY BETWEEN NIGHTFALL AND SUNRISE.

Not only were they not carrying a gun, but they didn’t even have a car unless they brought their own personal vehicle and sat in it. This is pretty significant, because we don’t live in a street, but in fields, the gate is a long way from the house, and whoever stands outside on a January night is completely exposed to the elements.

Some of them were so young – 18? – they didn’t even have a car, and my husband and I worried so much about those teenagers being out all night in the freezing cold in a dark field that we gave them our own car to sit in. And food and coffee, and CDs to play and books to read by torchlight.

Once they sent a woman constable so young and tiny and fragile that I joked to her, ‘Look, if anything happens, shout and I’ll come out and protect you.’ Then I stayed up half the night worrying because somebody’s young daughter was sitting out there in a cold car in a field on a dark night, my only consolation being that at least she could lock the doors if any idiot came along.

Our home had a fixed-point unarmed constable at the gate at night only, and for a brief period, not after it was set on fire, but after a bomb threat during the 2008 general election campaign. This was at the Police Commissioner’s insistence and very much against my will (as John Rizzo will confirm). I got rid of them as soon as I could, because they operated on a shift basis, and while some of them were perfectly nice and I worried about others, others still were clearly spying on us and I wasn’t having any of that.

The Police Commissioner again insisted that our home should have a fixed-point constable at the gate at night when that furor broke out over what I wrote about Magistrate Herrera. Apparently, her connections to some sort of underworld and general sleaze were considered so worrying that some of those contacts might have taken it upon themselves to do something nasty entirely on their own initiative. Again, this was against my will as John Rizzo will confirm, and I even gave him an angry piece of my mind about the ridiculous farce of a situation in which he was stationing police at my gate purportedly to protect me from the very people at whose insistence he was prosecuting me. That didn’t last long, either.

At the last general election, the Police Commissioner again decided that we should have a fixed-point constable at our gate at night because of all the tension which might turn dangerous. I sent him flying (again, he will confirm this). I said a lot of things which I think I would probably regret were I to hear them again, but I put my foot down and said no way, no policemen at our gate, not again and not ever again. Which is just as well really, because during the general election the only people from whom I needed protection were his man from the CID and his man from the Homicide Squad, who came to our gate late at night with an arrest warrant signed by a magistrate at his request, because I had committed the heinous crime of posting a video about Joseph Muscat on The Day Of Silence.

I repeat: THE POLICE MINISTER IS A BLOODY LIAR. MANUEL MALLIA IS LYING SCUM. SACK HIM BECAUSE HE IS A LYING CROOK.

And now this is a message addressed directly to Manuel tal-Gzira u tal-Blue Lantern (Paul Sheehan but with Faberge eggs and money) and to all the other hamalli and arrivistes who think that I must obviously have their mentality because it is the only one.

I do not WANT even a fixed-point constable at the gate to my home, let alone somebody stuck to my hip and following my every movement while armed or unarmed, because:

1. I am not a coward;

2. one of Manuel Mallia’s clients has not shoved a knife into my back and left me for dead (yet);

3. nobody in my family was raised illiterate and in the gutter for the last 300 years at least, let alone me, so I regard a protection officer as a major inconvenience to be avoided at any cost, and not a status symbol.

This might be really difficult for Manuel tal-Gzira and his many tacky fans to comprehend – that my reality is far removed from theirs – but understand it he had better because at this rate, fate is going to bite him in the fat arse before I do. Hamallu tal-flus – Paul Sheehan with Faberge eggs – and a lowdown liar to boot.

Thank you. We were waiting for this explanation. But even if you had armed protection it wouldn’t have been wrong if it was a necessity and you had permission for it.

As regards Simon Busuttil’s speech in parliament tonight, it’s a real qabza fil-kwalita’.

  2. Manuel says:

Oh, my God. He is such a big liar. If he can lie in this manner, blatantly, he definitely has Muscat by the balls.

Muscat is helpless vis-a-vis Mallia and that is why the Big Fat Liar continues to invent things. And he said it in Parliament, where he is protected by parliamentary privilege, which goes to show that he himself hasn’t any balls.

Earlier he tried to appease the anger of the Nationalists by telling them that he was with them Tal-Barrani.

He is not only a big, fat liar, but also pathetic.

    • Don Camillo says:

Of course Emmanuel Mallia has Joseph Muscat by the balls! Joseph Muscat cannot even move when faced by Mallia and his circle of corrupt police, soldiers and shady clients. He has been too deep into the game to know how to play his cards well.

    • Fido says:

Yes, he is a habitual liar.

Is this the level of integrity with which he approached the defence of his clients?

Did he work to see that justice is done or did he twist truths and facts to free thieves and murderers?

  3. Tinnat says:

How sad to think that 25 years ago this man was walking in the professional footsteps of Guido de Marco.

[Daphne – Don’t tempt me to say the obvious, because he is dead and I have a lot of respect for his son.]

  4. ron says:

As if we need to be told that Mallia is a lying scum.

  5. Joe Fenech says:

    Why is he involving you?

[Daphne – Because he is a low down dirty rat who has gorged on so much sewage that he can’t push himself back out of the drain.]

    • ciccio says:

Because Manwel Mallia is afraid of this blokkk.

    • Spock says:

Once again – splutter, choke , ix-xjafek kif xerraqqtni !

    • Tabatha White says:

You were right this evening in your earlier post to describe him for what he really is: A Paul Sheehan who is now Minister.

He has screwed people on the way up with not a care.

I would say it’s a compliment that you got under his skin to the extent that he suffered an eruption.

I’m looking forward to the moment he suffers a booting out.

    • Joe Fenech says:

Qabel ma dawn in-nies jidhlu fil-bini tal-parlament, flok jiccekjaw ghandhomx armi, ahjar jiccekjawlhom mohhhom.

  6. Mallia says:

Daphne, for your sake I hope Fate gets to Manuel’s arse before your teeth do.

  7. Mim says:

That is what is so very wrong with this government. They lie with such ease and without even missing a single beat.

They are so crafty at using the ‘even they did it, it’s not just me/us’ that one cannot possibly spot every single twist of the facts.

I did not think that your ‘armed protection detail’ was another lie.

It just went past me and it was only when I read your post that I kicked myself.

Even if it had raised a red flag, there are some things one just cannot check, some facts are not widely known.

But the coward has parliamentary privilege.

    • Angus Black says:

I’d like to be a fly on the wall during a Cabinet meeting. I have a strong suspicion that half the time the meeting consists of instructing the Ministers how to lie, spin, twist and misrepresent facts without even batting an eyelid.

  8. anthony says:

    Calm down, Daphne.

It is bad for your health which ought to be preserved at all costs in the overriding national interest.

The entire country knows that Manuel is a consummate liar although not everybody is brave enough to admit it.

He lied this evening on his way to the House.

He did not answer the reporter’s question not because he was late for the sitting but because it did not suit him to answer.

It would have taken him 2 seconds to answer a straightforward question and he did not even have to stop waddling.

He lied, for the umpteenth time, before the entire country.

  9. WhoamI? says:

Call him a c*nt. He knows that he is a c*nt, he totally owns the word c*nt, and behaves like one. He’s a fat c*nt.

  10. Francesca says:

So true Daphne and remember Mallia the higher you are the harder you fall and you will fall sooner or later on that fat backside of yours.

  11. A+ says:

Daphne, just finished listening to Simon Busuttil. Until tonight I was extremely sceptical about Simon Busuttil as a PN leader and about any chances of the PN winning the next election. I have to admit that he impressed me and I have a feeling that I witnessed our future prime minister.

    • Volley says:

Even during his press conference afterwards, he was impressive in his handling of the situation and his answers to journalists, especially the Justice Minister’s girlfriend, Janice.

  12. verita says:

So you protected these young constables when they came to protect you.

[Daphne – They were incapable of doing anything to protect anyone or anything, Verita. If risk there was, they were the ones who were endangered, exposed alone out there.]

  13. P Shaw says:

He is also trying to pull the late Guido deMarco into the dirty game. Irrispective of what I think/one thinks of the deMarcos, I am glad that Mario deMarco is defending his late father there and then in parliament.

  14. ciccio says:

Manwel Mallia’s lies do not show in his nose, but in his girth.

  15. Have always been very proud of all PN Leaders. Tonight Simon has surpassed Eddie Fenech Adami with his logic, Gonzi with his insight and I eagerly await his brilliant leadership. He is truly mega and has me back to Tal-Barrani fighting mode. Simon we have waited long for this kind of reaction. May we have a budget speech everyday to keep you high spirited and so utterly convincing. Prosit. I am proud of being a Nationalist supporter and Simon has me 4 square behind him.

  16. disgustat says:

I believe you do need protection but not the type they are talking about.

My request goes to all those police officers, armed forces personnel and secret service officers who have morals, who understand right from wrong.

We are are at war at the moment. We are at war against criminals, injustice and against thugs/bullies. You know who you are and you know that in your positions you can all aid in stopping any injustice or threat that may occur.

It is your duty to protect all Maltese citizens including Daphne. God bless you all, as it is only together that we can save this nation.

  17. canon says:

The shooting incident is showing the weaknesses of Joseph Muscat and his ministers. They are making one blunder after another.

  18. Dickens says:

Dr. Busuttil’s performance was very impressive tonight.

  19. H.P. Baxxter says:

Is this the first time you’ve been mentioned in Parliament? And is it usual for private citizens to be mentioned?

[Daphne – No, it isn’t. The Speaker of the House (not this one) allowed Franco Debono to rant and rave about me for ages in an insane and libellous fashion in June 2012. And of course he should have stopped him because, as you say, I am a private citizen – and beyond that, it is an abuse of parliamentary privilege to use that protection to slander anyone, let alone somebody who is neither a politician nor a public official. But then you see this is the trouble when hamalli get themselves a seat in the house and remain hamalli despite it. They see it as an amazingly wonderful platform for their hamallagni.]

    • H.P. Baxxter says:

I should’ve known. It figures that it would be fellow arch-hamallu uberDoctor Franco Debono, the other Kink tal-Qorti.

      • Hufflepuff says:

Isn’t doctor über francodebono a demi god?

      • H.P. Baxxter says:

He is a Greek god with smouldering Mediterranean good looks, a rippling torso honed by years of espresso, perfect in every way and the secret desire of many a young maiden.

    • ciccio says:

Actually, did the Minister mention you by name, or did he refer to you as “the one who cannot be named”?

    • Ruby says:

Striesand effect. I bet this site will have record hits tomorrow now that Daphne has been mentioned in parliament.

  20. C Mangion says:

Can someone please post a link to tonight’s parliamentary session? I missed the whole thing, damn it.

  21. Tim Ripard says:

Five bodyguards for John Kerry and Manwel only has one.

  22. Gahan says:

Simon Busuttil was great tonight. I feel we’re at a turning point in Maltese political history.

We have someone who is speaking in our name about our worries and people have become fearless in their anger.

At the forefront I’m seeing a shining light in Malta Today and Times of Malta who seemed to be the government’s mouthpieces.

One must not forget Medialink’s investigative and fresh journalism which seems to be making unprecedented inroads in Maltese media.

Finally thank you Daphne, for this website, which was ALWAYS there when people needed hope.

  23. Volley says:

Yes I always thought and believed that the right time will come for Simon Busuttil to shine. I think PN is on the right direction and the feeling out there (incl. mine) is truly encouraging. Well done Simon and thank you Daphne for your courage and determination in speaking the truth.

  24. ciccio says:

Ara dan kemm hu wiccu tost.

He will be demanding resignations, but is unwilling to submit his own:

    http://www.maltatoday.com.mt/news/national/46691/mallia_to_demand_resignations_if_inquiry_uncovers_attempts_of_coverup_by_ministry_officials

  25. manum says:

Daphne, you really touched my heart ,the way you cared for those young police man and young lady.
    Very decent of you.

  26. Brian Sinclair says:

Wow, Daphne is given so much importance that the Minister has mentioned her in Parliament. And he managed to get her name out whole!

Well done Daphne, you are the ONLY ONE. Keep hitting hard always above the belt because you speak the truth.

  27. Tabar says:

I never doubted Simon Busuttil’s potential and those who contradicted me these last couple of years tonight called to say how right I was.

Always said, how can I not believe in someone who was trusted by Eddie Fenech Adami who gave him so much responsibility during the E.U. election campaign.

Beware of the PN leader Mr. Prime Minister because he is there to stay.

    • Watcher of lies says:

I never doubted Simon Busuttil’s great potential. But he did get me worried for a few months. I now think that he first organised the party (vide the high value reporting by the young journalists) and Simon’s tonight’s parliamentary speech, his crossing the Rubicon.

      • Lixu says:

Yes, I initially doubted Simon Busuttil’s leadership capabilities, going so far as to state that he should get rid of ‘his first communion facial expression’.

Last night I witnessed a very different person who unleashed his fangs and dug into Labour in an impressive way.

From now on I am 4 square behind you, Simon, as I am now more than convinced that you are the right person to lead the Nationalist party. Prosit, prosit!

  28. Sufa says:

Manwel Mallia, of all people, would know that you did not have police protection. He was the one on site at your house – along with Ramona Frendo some 16 years or so ago – as part of the court proceedings in defence of a notorious cocaine dealer who was then undergoing trial in connection with the Richard Cachia Caruana case, when your house was set on fire the first time. I clearly recall seeing them on the news, Ramona Frendo with that insipid smirk of hers.

  29. il-Ginger says:

Is it possible for you to sue him?

[Daphne – No, because he said it in parliament and so is protected at law, and in any case, it isn’t slanderous. Not all lies are slander.]

    • Mila says:

It is significant to see that Mallia needed a prop and thought that including you’ would do the trick. Alas, all he could muster was a lie.

If this hadn’t sprung from his sheer cunning we could have called him miskin. As things stand, the criminal lawyer does not even warrant that.

  30. Freedom5 says:

Daphne, all diehard Nationalists are very pleased with Dr Busuttil’s performance. I don’t want to burst any bubble, but just wait for Muscat’s showmanship tonight.

The piece you have written here is multiple times better than Busuttil’s speech. This is the kind of battle talk that wins people over.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m sure Busuttil’s speech was good in content, but unfortunately he still has to toughen his tone/delivery. I still hear comments like uff xi dwejjaq, qisu sissy, even from gay people.

    • Space Bones says:

I disagree, Freedom 5. I watched Simon Busuttil’s speech from start to finish and he was brilliant.

The content was great, but more importantly, his delivery was perfect.

He was firm and confident, without being arrogant about it. Yesterday’s speech should convince many doubters that he has got what it takes. Did you actually watch it or listen to it?

  31. sarah says:

Mallia must go. Can we sign a petition for him to go?

  32. Giuseppe Azzopardi says:

Our own El Gordo. Magari the Spanish lottery, but our own fat (nofs miljun taht is-saqqu) minister. SHAME.

  33. EVC says:

Giddieb ta’ vera Manwel Mallia ghax barra dak kollu li qalet Daphne li giddbitu, persuna fuq facebook gab artikli fuq gazzetti ta’ zmien Pietru Pawl Busuttil fejn Mallia lanqas biss hu imsemmi ahseb u ara kif qal hu ilbierah, iddefendih.

Guido de Marco kien l-avukat li hargu liberat u mhux Manwel.

Zewg gidbiet wara xulxin u dan iridna nemmnuh. Imissu jisthi bniedem bhal dak jaqa daqshekk fil-baxx meta jaf li kulhadd jista jiccekkja dak li qal.

  34. GingerBreadMan says:

Well said, Daphne. The man is a liar, as is his “mexxej” and the rest of the party of which he forms part.

A party built on lies and, lies alone, this is what he forms part of. The thing about Joseph Muscat is that his skills as a salesman are not enough to mask the mediocrity of his cabinet, besides the dishonesty of a large chunk of it. No salesman could mask a ‘shower’ of a government as it stands.
