  1. Albatross says:

Are the dates right, or is that stordut of Ivan Camilleri confusing 2013 with 2014?

How can the Council issue a tender in January 2014 and Kabocca Busuttil give his advice in February 2013.

Or am I too tired ‘coz it’s 1:37 in the morning?

  2. Matthew S says:

Does anyone even remember that the 2015 budget was presented this week?

I can’t remember the last time the budget got overshadowed so quickly in the news.

Bad news has been coming out so thick and fast that, in a desperate effort to kickstart a discussion which would go nowhere, the government felt the need to leak a months-old report about a bridge that is neither desirable nor economically feasible.

If I were The Sunday Times of Malta editor, I would have dumped the bridge story in page 7 and plastered the front page with Manuel Mallia’s visage, Paul Sheenan’s gun and Morrison Smith’s pockmarked car.

In defence of The Sunday Times of Malta, they did publish two pages chronicling Manuel Mallia’s 20-month ministerial trainwreck (there have been so many scandals, I had forgotten some of them) and a leader advising the prime minister to sack him.

    • John B says:

Minhabba li l-Kap ta’ l-Oppozzjoni qieghed ‘jivventila’ il-kas tal-isparar fl-arja minn xufier ta’ ministru.

    • A Montebello says:

haha… I got gooseflesh as I read your post because i was telling my wife just that as read your piece. Uncanny.

  3. Maria says:

If there are errors they should have been corrected by the sub-editor. Does The Sunday Times have any?

  4. ciccio says:

The media is doing the right thing: not believing a word they say.

  5. vanni says:

    Why the soft speak?

‘Contrasted sharply with Dr Busuttil’s denial’

    should read:
Dr Busuttil lied through his teeth when he denied

Or seeing he is into kinkiness:

That f#cking liar, DrBusuttil, was true to form when he lied

  6. mf says:

God damned fcuken *sshole liar – I’m sorry for that outburst, but please allow it. I just can’t take this scum anymore.

  7. observer says:

The 1987 budget (announced in December 1986) was even more quickly overshadowed by the murder at the Gudja PN club the following day.

I remember Dr Fenech Adami, standing up in the House, declaring that budget as ‘totally irrelevant’ in view of the tragedy the nation had gone through the night before.

  8. CiVi says:

Hopefully the Budget will once again gain the limelight when it starts being discussed in Parliament.

  9. winston psaila says:

I suggest a magisterial inquiry should be set up immediately comprising three retired judges chosen by our intrepid leader and under the chairmanship of another appointed by the Leader of the Opposition – preferably deceased.

  10. bernie says:

Jum wara jum, konferma ta’ Gvern giddieb iffurmat minn aktar u aktar giddibin. Il-gideb jinfirex bhal ghanqbuta u aktar ma jghaddu l-jiem, din l-ghanqbuta aktar timtela’ bit-trab tal-korruzzjoni u tohrog aktar fil-berah.

  11. Mila says:

”With reference to Dr (Luciano) Busuttil’s case, the Prime Minister said he would leave it to the commission to carry out its investigation. ”I will not enter into the merits of the case… Dr Busuttil has said he was not advising the winning bidder at the time,” he said.” TOM

If Luciano Busuttil has lied to the PM, will the PM do something about it? He is seemingly passing the buck to the courts already, making it seem as if awarding the tender is the only thing which needs to be decided here? What about if an MP lies to his PM bringing the government into disrepute?

  12. What conflict of interest? says:

The Sunday Times of Malta can also confirm that Mr Mifsud had won a number of tenders for garbage collection in Ħamrun when Dr Busuttil served as mayor of the locality.

And then they have the brass neck to speak about corruption.

  13. Truth, partial truth or lie? says:

Regarding the Armier squatters PM told Ghandi Xi Nghid presenter Andrew Azzopardi on Radju Malta, as reported on Azzopardi’s site:

‘ “The decision will be whether to remove everything or regularise everything… I cannot renege on any legal agreement signed by Lawrence Gonzi,” Muscat said.’

    http://andrewazzopardi.org/2014/11/22/muscats-budget-forgotten-under-cloud-of-ministerial-responsibility-maltatoday/

Is there any truth to what is stated here that Muscat’s hands are tied because of an agreement signed by Dr. Gonzi giving rights to the Armier squatters? The statement seems a bit odd because if it were true I would have expected endless political mileage to me made from it by Muscat, but I wondered if anyone knew what it was all about.
