Stephen Smith is a Maltese citizen

Published: December 1, 2014 at 1:20am

Records for Waterbus International Ltd at the Malta Financial Services Authority give Stephen Smith’s nationality as Maltese. He is identified not by means of his Malta ID number, however, as Maltese citizens are in the MFSA records, but by another number.

My Maltese passport number doesn’t follow that format, but then I don’t know enough about this subject and maybe some readers do.

This means that Smith has been a Maltese citizen for six years at least, because those records were filed in 2008.

  1. Antoine Vella says:

The British High Commission took an interest in his arrest. Perhaps he holds dual citizenship.

  2. Matthew S says:

If Stephen Smith had been living in Malta for years and had even acquired Maltese citizenship, why was he driving a car with a non-Maltese registration plate?

    The rules say:

    – If you are a tourist, your car can stay in Malta for six out of 12 months, while retaining its foreign registration plates. Maltese residents (not just Maltese people, but anyone who has declared Malta to be their residence) cannot drive a vehicle with foreign registration plates (unless they have been given permission from Transport Malta).

    – If you are resident in Malta, you can only drive the car you have imported when it has Maltese number plates, that is, when it has been registered in Malta. You are given seven days to apply and following this are fined €30 for every day after that.

This might be an insignificant detail but at this rate, you never know. Every little detail seems to uncover some new hidden secret.

Thank you for confirming a suspicion which I had discussed in my private circles, proving me right.

There is not a single piece of truth published by government about this story.

That is a UK passport number as is the other person too.
