Looks like Italy’s put another self-satisfied jerk in charge (though we can’t talk)

  1. Joe Fenech says:

Not only a self-satisfied jerk, but a puppet of Berlusconi who is still behind the scenes.

  2. Mila says:

One starts to go through the possibilities, too much coffee, an all-nighter, skipped some sort of medication?

Whatever it comes down to, it isn’t appropriate behaviour, but a whole lot of what not to do when you are representing your country.

  3. Joe Micallef says:

The only difference between Muscat and Renzi is that the Italian workers unions have disowned Renzi, whilst in Malta the GWU has disappeared.

  4. Mobi says:

Il fratello scemo di Mr Bean.

  5. Harry Worth says:

He has no idea whatsoever of what proper behaviour should be like. He is an embarrassment.

  6. Ta'Sapienza says:

    What a prat.

  7. Challie says:

He’s a right winger disguised as a leftie. Good on him and good for Italy.

  8. Lizz says:

If it comes as any consolation to him, Renzi at least doesn’t look like a half plucked first class broiler capon.

  9. CiVi says:

At least he doesn’t mask his real self.

  10. Freedom5 says:

They are discussing immigration. The facts are that the EU could not find a measly €140 million to fund Italy’s Mare Nostrum saving thousands of immigrants from drowning. But the EU funded more than €5,000 million to save the banks.

No wonder Renzi arrived late, yawning, and not taking seriously his socialist counterpart’s empty talk about immigration.

Renzi may appear rude, but the EU’s policy on immigration is one big yawn.

Please don’t emulate One TV by taking things out of context.

And did I hear Shulz mention Australia. Perhaps he should have mentioned Papua New Guinea too.

[Daphne – France has Europe’s biggest ‘problem’ with immigration, Freedom5, and that’s a major French TV channel ‘taking things out of context. Bad manners are bad manners, full stop.]

  11. Freedom5 says:

Hopefully none of this will happen to our power station , or Gozo link .

  12. Bitter Lemon says:

Renzi’s attitude reminds me of Joey Muscat, always late and irrespectful. The only difference I find between them is that Renzi is smart and Joey is not.

  13. Freedom5 says:

Correction, the EU funded 500 billion to save the banks, which is 500,000 million, but could not find 140 million for immigration.

Yawn or laugh, it’s a scandal of Cecilia Malmstrom’s gross incompetence.

    • William Grech says:

Why single out the EU Commissioner with immigration and asylum within his or her portfolio?

It is a collective incompetence. Each and every Member State have been dillying and dallying about a common asylum system for decades already.

The Council has far more say on this aspect. It’s the national governments that are responsible for this shambles.

    • ron says:

Cecilia Malmstrom is no longer responsible for immigration. Please keep updated!

  14. kev says:

They’re all jerks. It’s a prerequisite to be a jerk, preferably a non-principled narcissist so as to avoid the inhibitions that come with a conscience.

It’s just that some politicians play the role better than others.

That is why we’ve recently seen the advent of groomed politicians who haven’t had a proper job in their lives.

  15. anthony says:

It is estimated that Silvio Berlusconi has a personal income of five hundred million euros per annum.

That is enough to own any Italian government including Mr Bean, the PM.

  16. Jozef says:

Not to be pedantic, but ‘Renzie’ was put there by Napolitano after Enrico Letta lost his majority the moment Renzi went back on his promise to support his government. He had just been elected leader of the PD vowing he wouldn’t.

‘Enrico stai sereno’ now the vernacular staisereno implying defiance.

    How Renzi became Renzie.

The identical speech in two languages.

  17. PB says:

They may have Boris Johnson as PM in the UK in future. Boris is worse then this prat. The Brits are heading the Italian way.

  18. L.Gatt says:

Serves Schulz right though; he supported Renzi and, I believe, Muscat too. Very wise indeed in his choice of leaders.

  19. David says:

I would judge Renzi and Berlusconi and any other political leader by their policies and actions in government.

  20. Talking Through His Hat says:

I very much think so, mainly after PM Muscat went to visit Renzi and both declared themselves the youngest prime ministers in Europe.

    What the hack!

Is that what one goes to discuss with PM Renzi?

And is that what interests PM Renzi?

I would have thought that meetings with PMs should be fruitful discussions and not casual conversations that aim for nothing except for some sweet charisma between the two.

Oh what a waste of space and time.
