Why do they have to lie about everything?

The Malta Independent is running a story which says that there was indeed an emergency army response to a “terror threat” in Malta last Thursday and Friday.
On Friday evening, I received several text messages from people who knew of or saw unusual movements among the Armed Forces of Malta. But when I checked the press updates, Police and Army Minister Carmelo Abela had issued a denial, saying that all was as normal and nothing out of the ordinary was happening.
It now appears he was lying.

It seems that we have really made a ‘qabza fil-kwalita` ‘ from Mallia to Abela.
Please indulge our curiosity and publish something about the ‘expert’ who was engaged for the area in front of Castille.
The Malta Independent is calling him ‘Sir Ian Lansley’.

Thanks, he is not a landscape architect or some sort of designer then. No wonder the wording of the article seemed a bit off. I wonder why it was not desirable to say arborist or tree surgeon?
”Expert Ian Lansley has been appointed by the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation to make recommendations on embellishment works in front of Castille.”

So much bull from a paper that specialises in bull, reflected in full bull here on this bull blog.
[Daphne – I hear you have just been fired, Kevin, for embarrassing your employers by distributing incendiary material about a politician. Do please tell us about that on this bull blog.]
Nixtieq nghidlek il-verita, anke jekk b’mod kriptiku u bil-Malti, izda sfortunatament ma jaqbilx f’dan l-istadju. Nippreciza, pero, li min ihaddimni mhux biss ghandu l-fiducja shieha fija, izda raw kif ghamlu biex ma jitilfunix.
Il-glieda kienet wahda politika. U s-soluzzjoni kienet tant iehor. Huduha ma saqajkom issa.
Note to Matthew Vella tas-Salvu Today: qis li taghmel copy/paste job tajjeb u please iccempillix. Grazzi.
[Daphne – Why are you suddenly writing in Maltese, Kevin? So that those horrid people in Brussels can’t understand what you’re saying and let us know whether it is true or not?]
Figure it out yourself, Daphne. Everything is above board, I can assure you. The battle was of a political nature, and the ’embarassment’ was felt solely by those who had reason to be embarrassed.
Kev will most probably return to Malta to a cushy job with government – as an advisor maybe – as he is so intelligent and full of modern ideas. Hopefully Kev will stay in Brussels where he is less capable of causing more damage to Malta.
Fear not, kev. I’m sure you’ll have the full support of J Dalli BA. Salvutoday says they got you once you returned from sick leave? Uncanny, if true.
To all you lovely, well-meaning people, please cry not, for I have retained my job to my full satisfaction.
kev, you’re a big-headed hypocrite at best, but you’re not going to see that now are you. Nobody’s in tears here.
Not sure what job you’ve ‘retained,’ but good luck with whatever it is. Euro media sites are saying that you have been dumped.
If you need a sick-note, I know this guy….
Pity the government sold its shares in Maltapost.
So what’s this affair, Kevin?
The illegal annexation of Ukrainian territory is Russia’s doing, with unmarked soldiers with sophisticated weapons and a highly organised structure. Innocent people are dying every day in the east of Ukraine and the displaced are in the thousands.
Is it a chip on your shoulder against the Ukrainian citizens and nation or are you in bed with the Russians?

When I read the denial, I immediately assumed that there was/is an imminent threat. As a 47 year old I have been conditioned to expect lies and only lies with Labour in government.
Exactly my thoughts, Daphne. Why do they have to lie about anything? We also deserve an answer to this question but I know it’s wishful thinking.
I came across this one yesterday.

Just look at that arrow pointing to Malta.

Obviously not. He thinks it’s men on boats.
And it’s not an obscure website, you dorks at Times of Malta, it’s an IS document doing the rounds intercepted by the Italian SISME outlining which military installations to target to get hold of missiles.
Tel Aviv here we come, or, how unconstitutional are a couple of missile interceptor launch platforms?
This one didn’t arrive on a boat:

Al Qae’da Jihadists at the Plaza, nice.
Explains the bomb threat in restaurant row a few weeks ago.
When Police and Army Minister Carmelo Abela issued a denial, saying that nothing out of the ordinary was happening, he may not have been lying at all if Malta actually is passing through a continuous emergency since the last general election and that this has become our normal state of affairs.
I have not yet decided if it is the first or second scenario which worries me most. No doubt the government is weighing these two together with the third of keeping its mouth completely shut to take the path of least damage to itself.
“When he denied the alarm, the minister may not have been fully informed of the situation or else wanted to play down the issue so as not to cause any panic, the sources said.”
I hope that switchers at least are enjoying being daddied.

Hi Daphne,
Maybe in response to this?

Guess which terrorist organisation thinks Malta is one of Italy’s islands?
Just look at the map and how it ignores Malta’s nation status
Xi dwejjaq. Oqghod mut ghalxejn.
Joseph Muscat has made it easy for terrorist organisations like IS to infiltrate Malta. All they have to do is buy a Maltese passport.
It won’t even cost them 650,000 euros, as with a mere application they will get residency here and be able to carry out whatever devastation they intend.
Minister Abela did not say that Malta was not on alert – he said that Malta was not on HIGH alert. Reading between the lines, I automatically took that to mean that Malta was on the alert just the same, but simply not on red alert, given the way this government speaks.
I think that the Labour Party is the weak link in the success chain holding Malta up.
For almost the entire time the PN were in government from 2008, the world was hit by the worst financial crisis in decades. We saw debt go crazy and the whole of Europe and the rest of the world was sentenced to five years of austerity and hardship.
But Malta got through it. This was not because we are insignificant and not all that connected to the rest of the world. We may not be major players in the same way France, the Uk and US are, but we are part of it. Our only income is tourism, and that is not all that reliable.
How did we get through it? Good governance. Ok, so the PN had a few, and literally a few, unpopular ideas regarding things like divorce, but Malta survived because of good housekeeping and prudent spending.
But that was not the only thing. Since the PN are held to such high standards by their supporters and by the opposition alike, there existed the correct – even if somewhat unfair- parameters within which they had to work. Good- that is as it should be.
However, today we have the Labour Party. Let’s take a look at how they fair in terms of being faced with international catastrophe. During the Arab Spring Muscat thought only of capitalising on the lost tourism in the then war torn countries. What about the financial crisis? Wasn’t Muscat keen to copy Cyrus? We all know how that turned out, don’t we.
And now they are in government. Their ineptitude is frustrating, to say the least. For the first time in my life, up until 2013, myself and other Maltese friends of mine were all dropping the “Malta and anything Maltese is automatically bad” expectations of our country because, what do you know, we were actually coming up with good ideas that made the country work.
Labour have dragged us all the way back to pre 2000 days where everything Maltese was underwhelming, tacky and stupid because Mintoff’s mentality was still prevalent and we were still slowly climbing out of it. Muscat is pulling us all the way back to not being able to trust our ideas and doubt our confidence in ourselves as a nation. These issues which are so easy to get right, are done badly and the result is all wrong and embarrassing.
What does this mean for Malta? We are distracted by such ineptitude that we forget that we live not far from one of the most inhumane groups of people on the planet today; ISIS.
Do I trust Muscat on this issue? No. Why should I? Because whenever there is an international issue he can’t resort to his amateur ways. He is held up to the high standards he should be, and he just can’t navigate his way around them.
No, I don’t think he wants Malta to be targeted and suffer. But I don’t believe he is capable of even trying to get it right. His past performance on these matters is what is informing my judgment here.
Malta is a soft target. We may not think of ourselves as all too important, but as a soft target goes, we’re the best type. If Malta was on high alert, Malta should have been informed. In other countries they always know what level of warning they are on.
The problem with this issue is that Muscat has not got a single chance to get it wrong. He has to get it right straight away, or there will be massive implications.
