Will Barack Obama please recall this Taghna Lkoll embarr…ambassador?
The US ambassador was at the Auberge de Castille when the government of Malta signed its contract with a Jordanian company in front of the press.
Why was she there, when nothing and nobody from the United States was a party to the contract? She was there at the invitation of the prime minister, who wanted to lend VISUAL weight to his claim that this is going to be an American university – as in, a university run by an American university accredited in the United States and with American investment.
And so off the ambassador went, oblivious to the implications or why she was wanted there. Worse still, she tweeted from the scene of the action – a tweet that seems to have since disappeared from her Twitter feed in the ensuing controversy.
If she took all that at face value, all I can say is this: what an embarrassment, really. Aren’t career diplomats supposed to be perceptive? Isn’t that the point of them?
On a similar note, the ambassador doesn’t know (or care) that ‘Christian Thorn’ is a fixated troll who spends his days slandering Enemies of the State on social media and various internet comments boards, using that false name so people can’t trace him and sue him.
And only the most clueless ambassador would say, in public and in Malta, that Agatha Barbara got to be president of the republic because of “persistence and believing in herself”. Before the ambassador speaks, she should take advice and some lessons in Maltese political reality, because she is really coming across badly.
She spends all her time with Taghna Lkoll soft-soapers and switchers and probably doesn’t quite understand just how badly skewed her perspective is.
So thrilled with this new partnership! Great for #StudyAbroad, top notch #AmericanEducation & #Malta!
