In-your-face corruption has given a dull-witted 17-year-old a sinecure for life

Karl Cutajar – he was actually put on the payroll at Malta Investment Management Company Ltd and Malta Government Investments last year when he was 17. Sources at MIMCOL say he is the de facto CEO. Cutajar wasn’t even capable of sitting for A-levels.

After seeking to justify, in parliament, 18-year-old Karl Cutajar’s appointment as director, SHAREHOLDER, company secretary and judicial representative of Fort Services Ltd, the government’s new security company which is in his ministerial portfolio, Chris Cardona is now saying that he didn’t know about it and only found out in parliament.

He also told The Malta Independent that the fact that Karl Cutajar is his chief of staff’s nephew has nothing to do with his selection for the role “and in any case he is not being paid for it”.

He did exactly the same when the press asked him about Sai Mizzi’s contract with Malta Enterprise. “I know nothing,” he said, when he is the minister responsible for Malta Enterprise.

But it gets worse – much, much worse. “I didn’t appoint Karl Cutajar,” the Economy Minister told The Malta Independent. “Karl Cutajar was appointed to the company by MIMCOL.”

MIMCOL is in Chris Cardona’s portfolio, too.

How on earth did MIMCOL come into it? I told you it gets worse. The Economy Minister was forced to explain to The Malta Independent that Karl Cutajar has actually been on the state payroll under the aegis of his ministry since last year, at Malta Investment Management Company Ltd, the state corporation which manages public holdings.

Chris Cardona’s chief of staff’s nephew was just 17 when the state corporation picked him “through a competitive interview process and call for applications” for a job as ‘executive clerk’.

All those other people who applied for the job and went to the fake interviews were just unwitting decoy-ducks, used and abused to get the chief of staff’s nephew in.

Sources at MIMCOL told The Malta Independent that this kid – 17, now 18 – is not an executive clerk at all but the de facto CEO.

And his LinkedIn profile shows that he is not just on the payroll at MIMCOL but also at Malta Government Investments Ltd.

Pressed by The Malta Independent, Chris Cardona said that Cutajar is paid “the going rate” for his job.

No wonder he is not paid for his services at the government’s new security company. He’s already on the government payroll through MIMCOL and Malta Government Investments.

This means that even if the corrupt Labour government is booted out of office three or eight years’ hence, this useless waste of space who was too thick even to sit for his A-levels (that’s why they found him a job at 17) is secure on the state payroll until he retires at 65, and the new government will not be able to kick him out.

Nice Uncle Mario and his nicer friend Chris haven’t just found the dull-witted nephew a job. They’ve found him a FORTY-EIGHT YEAR life plan.

This corrupt decision of Chris Cardona’s will cost the Maltese public 48 years worth of salaries and other costs.

In-your-face corruption has given a 17-year-old boy who is too stupid and lazy to train or study, and who is barely literate, a sinecure for life in a comfortable desk job.
