UPDATE/The Azeribaijan radio station which gave the report mentioned beneath is part of the U.S. government-supported http://www.rferl.org/info/about/176.html(RFE/RE) network, whose symbol is the torch of liberty. Its journalists have often been imprisoned by oppressive regimes, including Azerbaijan for their reporting.

http://www.azadliq.org/content/malta-azerbaycan/27596552.html have reported on a story published in The Sunday Times last Sunday about an Azerbaijani billionaire who set up several companies in Malta, through Brian Tonna of Nexia BT, shortly after a visit to Baku by the Prime Minister and his chief of staff. The companies were then all closed down simultaneously just a few months later – which is typical of money-laundering practice. Though this is not mentioned in The Sunday Times piece, standard money-laundering practice often involves opening up one or more companies in one jurisdiction, shutting them down soon after, then opening up different companies in the same jurisdiction or another jurisdiction, and repeating the process several times.
