Konrad Mizzi was visiting the offices of Pilatus Bank, not Shanghai Electric Power

Last September, Mario Frendo of Net News seems to have received word that Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi had arrived at Whitehall Mansions in Ta’ Xbiex, in his official car with chauffeur, but without the GM (‘on government business’) plates on. He waited outside the building and caught Mizzi on his way out – see the video below.

It was the third time that the Energy Mizzi had been seen arriving at Whitehall Mansions quietly, Frendo reported. The assumption made in the Net News story is that he was visiting the Malta base of Shanghai Electric Power, which is at Whitehall Mansions.

But now I can confirm that Mizzi’s visits were actually to the offices of Pilatus Bank – and let’s face it, that makes far more sense because he would not have needed to visit Shanghai Electric Power secretly as he had the perfect cover, as Energy Minister, for meetings with them, and the deal with them had been signed 18 months previously anyway.

When Mizzi paid his visits to Pilatus Bank, it had received its licence to operate, from the Malta Financial Services Authority, only the previous month.
