World Bank: Malta is the worst place to do business in the European Union

Read the background to the story here. Malta has featured in this World Bank world index since 2012, and has consistently been bottom of the league where EU member states are concerned.

Malta has risen from 102nd world place to 76th since then, but remains the bottommost EU member state, beaten even by ramshackle Greece which is the next one up and a full 15 places higher at 61st position in world terms.

But fear not, for Joseph Muscat is solving the problem and his friends have made some convenient offshore arrangements, which they hoped would stay secret, for just that purpose.
