Tony Blair’s recorded message of endorsement for Muscat’s government sought to give the impression that he and Joseph Muscat coincided in public office and that they were prime ministers or party leaders ‘together’, meaning that they knew each other.
His own people didn’t call him Bliar for nothing. Blair left public office for good in 2007, when he stepped down as British prime minister and Labour Party leader to make way for Gordon Brown.
At the time, Muscat was just one of several hundred members of the European Parliament, and would not become Labour leader for another two years.
