Former General Workers Union boss Tony Zarb is on the rampage after Nationalist MEPs David Casa and Roberta Metsola spoke about corruption and the rule of law in Malta, in the European Parliament.

He uploaded a Facebook post which said: “When Casa and Mezzola (sic) return to Malta, they deserve to be welcomed like traitors.”

A flurry of comments followed, with people calling for them to be met at the airport with posts accusing them of being traitors to their country, that eggs and tomatoes should be thrown at them, and one man wrote, “If he (Casa) objects, I’ll hit him in the face in a way he will remember the rest of his life.”

Standards in public life being what they are now, Mario Azzopardi, the artistic director of Valletta18, European Capital of Culture, joined in, asking: “Anybody has the info about their return plans?”

And when discussion intensifies about going to the airport to assault the two MEPs, he writes in Maltese: “I’ll be there. Just let me know when and at what time.”
