This site had 305,000 views yesterday
For comparative purposes, on polling day it had 368,000 views. The high figure – around 25,000 higher than that on the day the John Dalli/Bahamas scandal broke this summer – is directly linked to the Norman Vella case.
People, it seems, relate more closely to the arrest and detention of a man on trumped-up charges of taking a picture of Kurt Farrugia, and the sequestering of his phone and tablet by the police, than they do to a Maltese EU Commissioner making secret, hasty trips from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean to move millions of dollars for a client who is an international fraudster with multiple aliases.
The magnitude of the John Dalli factor, and what it means in terms of his close relationship to the prime minister is, I think, beyond the scale of comprehension.
But most of us can imagine ourselves arrested and detained by the police and having our communication devices abusively sequestered by them. For many of us, it is a reality we lived through and grew up with, and the response is Pavlovian.

I’d like to think that the reason for the increase is that you’re gaining in popularity because people are discovering the the true colours of this government and the bias or incompetence of the other media sources.
Not only the incompetence of the other media but also the fact that the opposition is fast asleep as the moment…..how about waking up to smell the coffee/pong?
I’m actually tired of people saying the Opposition’s dormant.
Hanging on to civilised behaviour and its ethical restrictions on discourse yes, by all means. But I prefer that to some Muscat clone spiting everyone with told you so’s.

The Independent has what it takes to criticise, who gives a toss what Sansone’s up to. His days are numbered if he’ll just copy and paste.
Even Maltatoday won’t give up on its focus, MEPA, environmental issues and the rights of human beings saved from sinking boats.
Things will come to a head when this government clashes with the EU. Rest assured it will. The opposition requires everyone.

Personally I think Tonio should round up Konrad’s scam and tear it pieces.
The PN’s undergoing a major mindshift, so we miss Lawrence Gonzi, doesn’t mean his style and fast paced rhetoric should be imposed on his successor.
What matters is to follow closely public opinion and set about building around it. To date Labour’s avoided politics whatsoever, even this passport business is being rushed through parliament.
What’s certain is that five years of snide bullying isn’t sustainable. Either they degenerate or they back off.
They don’t have good governance at heart, simply too compromised.
Congratulations! The Times of Malta was the singular hope of freedom of expression in 1979 when it was burnt down. The ghost of that newspaper has now passed the torch of such freedom to you. Keep it alive!

I’m sick of this unwritten rule which gives Times of Malta some arbitrary right over public opinion.
Times of Malta belongs to established interests. No space for controversy.
A section of Malta wants a western-style modern media, that is currently missing in the form of a paper.
We only have non-political parties newspapers that pussyfoot around the issues or are completely dishonest and non-trustworthy.

The present political situation is far worse than it was during the Golden Years.
Then we had, at least, a fearless giant of a politician as a reference point in Fenech Adami.

Well done, your reporting on major issues which the mainstream press did not really and truly delve into (John Dalli, Shiv Nair, etc) sure earned you respect among many readers, even if they might not agree with you on all aspects. Keep it up.

300,000 is 75% of that.
