The education authorities must investigate – this man teaches biology to teenage girls at Tal-Handaq School

This is Vince Taliana, in his 40s. Does this kind of thing strike you as normal? There's something very weird going on there.

This is Vince Taliana, in his 40s. Does this kind of thing strike you as normal? There’s something very weird going on there.

Just look at this. Does it strike you as acceptable that a teacher should be writing this way about anyone at all, in open view on Facebook? What sort of example is he to his pupils? The man is my age: instead of acting like an adult responsible for teenagers, he eggs them on to ignore sensible advice, insulting those who give it, and manipulating his young and naive prey. This is the time-honoured method used by people like him, who want to keep a vice-like grip on the young and naive who they have manipulated into their control.

Vince Taliana

I was so astonished by the ‘pasta pictures’ that it didn’t even occur to me to look at the ‘About’ section of Vince Taliana’s Facebook page, where they are uploaded on full public view.

Vince Taliana teaches biology at St Ignatius College, which is the state secondary school for girls at Tal-Handaq.

Taliana is the man who organises these shoots and runs a series of ‘modelling competitions’ in which girls and very young women pose provocatively in a range of emotionally-and-sexually-arrested pervert’s fantasy outfits that include Disney characters, lollipops, sweets, sexy housewives, cupcakes, little girl outfits, and in which boys and young men shaved, waxed and oiled to look as pubescent as possible pose in pseudo-macho attitudes that only heighten their femininity, which is the purpose.

The photographs are on open view, set to public, on his Facebook page. There are so many of these perv’s delight pictures that it’s easy to lose yourself in bewilderment as to how nobody notices what is actually going on here, and how this sort of thing can ever be passed off as ‘modelling’.

Malta has no modelling industry to speak of. These are just young people talked and persuaded into posing for perverts, wearing outfits and striking attitudes that they probably don’t even realise are twisted because these young people are mainly straight out of the village and haven’t a clue. They probably think it’s glamorous and exciting, and they think this biology teacher is fun and that he lives in a world of showbiz rather than something that would get him banned from teaching anywhere else.

Is the school out of its mind, allowing this creep anywhere near girls aged been 11 and 16? Going by the available evidence, he shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near pubescent boys, either. In fact, I have just received information that he used to teach at St Aloysius College around 20 years ago, but was asked to leave (quietly) because of ‘certain issues’.

Then he winds up at Tal-Handaq. This is madness. What a sick society we live in, that a creepy teacher in his 40s can be allowed to get his rocks off uploading pictures of pseudo (and possibly real) Lolitas and teenage boys in hello-there-sailor poses openly on Facebook and everyone thinks it’s normal, that it’s ‘just modelling’, including the stupid school.

Evarist Bartolo has been playing the hero about Erin Tanti, saying that schools should have stricter recruitment policies. Well, it’s time to get off his backside and do something about this. This one is HIS responsibility. He works for a state school.

Why isn’t there a weeding out policy for people like this teacher? People with his kind of special interests always seek out positions, jobs and careers which will give them plenty of access to young people, children, adolescents and teens.

    What is happening?

is this the new ethics we are having our children exposed to?

Currently in the UK, child abuse scandals in music schools (where guru type characters similar to Vince Taliana et al. thrive) and mainstreams schools are cropping up.

Lots of plastic and dinky toys. Fashion in Malta is something really awkward. In the process of trying to do something different they fail miserably. Some people do not understand the harshness of the business: most of the above would be thrown out on the first audition/appearance.

Why are you scandalised? You forgot that the untouchable Nuxxelina is a teacher also.

That is somewhat worse, because she teaches at a church school.

      • X says:

What I mean is that, while a teacher might have slipped vetting in a state school church schools would, perhaps, be a bit stricter with regards to who they employ.

Well done, this is investigative reporting at its best.

  5. Carmelo Micallef says:

Is this the norm in an abnormal community?

  6. Oh, come on says:

I was expecting underage girls posing provocatively in bikinis. Instead I get 25 year olds in old-fashioned campy carnival costumes, and I’m supposed to be shocked. Come on, Daphne.

[Daphne – You have lived a very sheltered life if you think that underage girls posing in bikinis, even if provocatively, are more disturbing than this. Teenage girls posing provocatively in bikinis could actually be classed as normal even if wrong. If you don’t understand the creepy sexuality of a man in his 40s who gets off on both teenage girls/young women and teenage boys/young men posing with lollipops and in fetish outfits (it’s not all about firemen and nurses, you know), then you need to take some classes. Don’t come looking here, though.]

    • Oh, come on says:

You keep using the word teenagers. Some of them look like they’re in their 30s, for Christ’s sake. None of them look like under 25, that’s for sure. And only one of them has a lollypop; she looks about 31.

Sure he’s a campy middle-aged man and his photos are rather terrible. Doesn’t make him unfit to be a teacher.

[Daphne – To people in their teens, anyone over the age of 20 might as well look and be 40 or 50. But those of us who are 40 or 50 can tell apart even those who are in their early, mid and late 20s. There is nobody in these photographs who is over 30. Most of the girls are not even 20. That one you mention, who looks 31 (why thirty ONE) is very young and laden with make-up. And despite the make-up, she is definitely not 31.]

    • seriously??? says:

There are girls in those pictures that are underage! You’ll be impressed on what a little make-up could do let alone that amount.

Some of the underage girls who are posing there are also posing with cigarettes. Come on. I am a 20yr old and am not old fashioned. I follow fashion very much but I like to keep my self-respect, and am always smart and still look good in clothes that don’t degrade me.

If you don’t find this to be disturbing I don’t know what does then!

  7. X says:

Perhaps St. Martin’s College would like to have a word with this teacher of theirs https://www.facebook.com/rita.gatt.35?fref=ufi, who associated herself publicly with Vince Taliana on his Facebook page, replying to a comment he made (https://www.facebook.com/vtaliana1?ref=ts&fref=ts) directly attacking you for publishing already public photos yesterday. Oh, and she did it during school hours too, although it could have been during a free lesson, unless she is off work today.

    • X says:

The woman has also got a public album entitled ‘SMC 2013-2014’ on her Facebook page, containing over 180 photos, many of them of happy schoolchildren.

While there is nothing wrong in the photos per se, this teacher clearly does not understand the Data Protection Act, her responsibilities as a teacher with teaching children about Internet safety, and has also, perhaps, forgotten that the form parents sign allowing photos of their children to be taken, which expressly states that photographs which include the child/ren may be published/displayed/used “in printed publications, newsletters, magazines and other information and promotional material”, none of which applies to a teacher’s personal Facebook page.

    • Ness says:

I’m a regular reader of this blog and although I seldom comment I thought it best to give my opinion this time.

Mr. Tatiana used to teach biology at St. Martins College, at least up until 2007 when I completed my studies. He was a brilliant teacher who always tried his best to keep his lessons as interesting as possible and never once mentioned his other career in ‘modeling’.

This may have been due to the fact that he knew we would have laughed him out of the room had he even brought up the subject, two Maltas and all that. Most of us achieved top marks in our biology O level and went on to further our education in the scientific and medical fields.

I can also vouch for the fact that he was not a pervert, having been one of the supervising teachers on two of the overseas school trips that I attended. He always kept a watchful eye on us to make sure we never strayed but nothing untoward was ever suggested.

Also before anyone compares me to those silly 15 year old girls defending that ghastly Erin Tanti, I am a 23 year old woman who has thankfully been taught by both my parents and teachers to be able to spot a perverted weirdo from a mile away.

      • Ness says:

That being said, these photos are absolutely hilarious and I am definitely bookmarking this page for our next SMC gathering. Woody in his box is absolutely priceless!

  8. toninu says:

why are you picking on this man?.. this country is full of beauty comepititons … if u really have a real opinion abt the subject dont wait everytime this man organises a competition there are other organsiers and even worse so called photographers who literally seduce underagegirls to take provocative photos… and you are just silent about them

    • Carmelo Micallef says:

Then you should report what you know to the police – are you going to do the right thing?

    • X says:

This man is a teacher, which is why he was probably brought to the attention of this bog.

    • La Redoute says:

If you know about photographers seducing underaged girls, why don’t you report them to the police? The matter only seems to trouble you because one of your friends or colleagues has been criticised.

  9. anon says:

Do you know what the “certain issues” at St Aloysius College were about? This article puts that episode in a new light.

  10. Joe Fenech says:

Come on, Daphne, that’s part of the biology practicals. Biex qed tiskanta?

  12. Malcolm says:

Can you please give me your email address?

    [Daphne – [email protected]]

  13. Lorry says:

I really can’t figure out what is happening here. I am approaching my forties and I can assure you that I was never a nerdy kind of guy and despite that, I always believed that boundaries, principles and ethics should be the norm.

Teachers behaving like this publicly on Facebook is unacceptable. Whether they have fetishes of some sort or not, there still has to be a clear boundary between the two, governed with a strict ethical and legal regime.

Seems like these people were living underground all this time and as soon as the “moviment” took to the helm, all hell broke loose. I’m starting to consider seriously the theory that Labour won the election because it appealed to this underground society.

    [Daphne – It’s not a theory. It’s a fact.]

Labour constantly portrayed this image of a party with no boundaries and everything should be Taghna Lkoll during last campaign and I believe that this is now the result of thousands of people interpreting the Taghna Lkoll slogan to their own advantage.

    Jaqq.

  14. Micheal says:

Sorry but I disagree with you Daphne on the issues mentioned in this article. Vince Taliana is a very respected man who is also very ethical. He takes lots of aspects into consideration, the models or whatever you want to call name are either of age or else they are requested to have a sign formed by their parents, who would also in most cases support their children and even go to the events. Being a teacher does not imply that he openly promotes his hobby. I think you are stereotyping this guy.

  15. IP says:

Do you even have the copyright to be redistributing these pictures on your website? Someone should investigate you.

[Daphne – They’re on Facebook, which means they are public and that the ‘copyright owner’ has in fact lost the copyright. Facebook owns everything uploaded on Facebook and doesn’t care whether the rest of us use it. You clearly haven’t read the terms and conditions of use.]

  16. Alonso says:

    Really FUGLY people!

  17. Romina says:

    Dear Daphne
Only Vince Taliana does modeling competitions ? I can assure cause used to model with him for 4 years & even gad the opportunuity to represent Malta in 2008 in Palm Spring California which i am honoured to say that placed with the top 15 from 40 countries !!!!! What is he doing wrong ? He do it in his free time not while he’s working, apart that he’s great teacher
When he’s at school he is at school but when he’s not at school i guess he can do what h wants !!!! Can i sak u something & pls do respond ???? Would u like to take part of the modeling contest maybe 1 day you can present Malta or you’se so dammm afarid that you won’t make it cause of your character or cause you don’t have it all ????

[Daphne – I never took part in competitions, Romina, because I don’t come from the same kind of background and probably wouldn’t even if I had. But yes, I did most definitely do the proper kind of modelling a few times in those days when fashion shows were popular, but that would be because unlike all the girls shown here, I had the required height and ranginess. Models are not short and curvy. They are the opposite.]

    • Dicky Cliffs says:

Romina, if the teacher does all that he does for you all, in his free-time, then the teacher must either have too much time on his hands or his second job is paying him more than the first one so he must be juggling it all at the expense of god knows who and what.

Organising all those type of shows and the responsibility of catering for all those ‘models’ here and abroad, must make his first job defunct of any time left to concentrate on his responsibility as a teacher.

In this case, I would very much think that his second job is very much interrupting his first one and that the authorities should be looking in to this as children are minors and minors are vulnerable.

You or anyone surely wouldn’t ever want the god forbid telephone call, informing you that Zack, Mary or Jane is missing due to a problem of human error.

  18. Persil says:

Are the girls Maltese? I am sure that their parents haven’t seen the photos. Some are shocking.

  26. Ex-SAC Student says:

Hi – it’s the first time I am commenting on this site but you hit a sore point here. Speak to any Form 5 students at St Aloysius College in the late 1990s when this teacher used to teach biology there, and ask them about a couple of ‘incidents’ he was involved in, including the final nail in his coffin when he was sacked for using the names of his pupils from one particular class in a biology paper stating the following (i will email it to you privately so you can verify and it is close to unbelievable):

Names used in the question are all fictitious. If a reference is made to a person whom you think you know, is purely by coincidence:

    a. *** has a ‘dwarf penis’. Will that effect his sperm count?

    b. *** admitted that he masturbates an average 5times/day. Is he risking ending up without any sperms later in his life?

    c. *** and *** have homosexual tendencies while *** is purely homosexual. Explain the underlined words (homosexual). What is responsible for the sexual preferences of **** and ***

    d. **** and *** were both castrated; **** at 10 years while **** very recently when he was 15. Comment on the effect of castration on both guys.

    e. Draw clearly labelled diagrams of the make and female gametes, indicating their approximate size.

This is not a joke. What is a joke is that this is a teacher who has been ‘teaching’ in different schools for the past 15/20years moving from one place to another.

It is unbelievable that schools continued to employ him.

What about Nuxellina, if may I ask? Isn’t she a teacher as well?

  34. Anthony says:

First off id like to start by asking if you even know this man? You probably don’t, you’re the perfect example of judging a book by its cover. You probably search hours on end just to find something pointless to write about and ruin some ones image with your pointless comments. How can you call those photos sexual? each and every person is covered up. Are you still living in the past? have you not noticed that means of advertisement have changed and photos like that are considered as completely normal, why not even? its not like they’re naked. Well with your appearance i can understand why you’d want to spread the word that these images are considered as ‘slutty’ so every one can be all covered up and you won’t look as bad as you already do near others. You bringing him down just shows that you are below this person. People do not just listen to what DAPHNE has heard and has to say, as i heard Mr.Taliana was a teacher at st martins, who never had any issues with the staff or students and helped students pass their exams with flying colours. If these comments are enough to make a teacher lose its job, then children on the whole will be missing out on great education. Take that stick out of your ass daphne and live and let live, start to see both sides of things. After each article i read of you, the more i start to realise what a sad woman you are, a woman that is over 50 (judging by your looks) and seeking attention and satisfaction through bringing people down on this blog. Your comments are the perfect example of ‘zejda’.

  35. Rebecca Pace says:

    Dear Daphne,

What the hell do you care what this man’s interests are? It’s just photography, as far as I know, he’s not doing anything wrong. Did you EVEN CONSIDER that he has a family? A daughter? Did you even consider that you might hurt all of them with this childish post? If you’re so fed up of the ‘Maltese fashion’ and us Maltese, why don’t you migrate? You’ll do us ALL a huge favour, you heartless witch!

[Daphne – I’m a little tired of this ‘what about his family’ business. He is the one who should be seeing to that, not me. Your reasoning is that people with a public role/position of trust over children but who have families can do whatever they please and the media can’t report on it so as not to upset their family. How about they don’t do it in the first place? What about the families of the children and teenagers he’s manipulating to his own perverse ends? ‘Witch’ is a childish retort. We’re long past the days when women we don’t like are viewed as witches and burned at the stake, Rebecca. Join the 21st century.]

    • Sufa says:

” Did you EVEN CONSIDER that he has a family? ”

Did he consider his daughter and his family before splashing himself on Facebook pretending to be Domenico Dolce or Stefano Gabbana, when clearly he is not. .

He holds an important position outside Facebook – that of a teacher. Or is it that, because he’s a teacher, then he is exempt from being corrected, if he is wrong?

Wynona Ryder is a very good actress but when she was caught stealing knickers from a supermarket whilst earning millions as an actress, she was still disciplined. People remain people whether they are good at what they do / not.

You also need to remember that what is wrong is wrong. Bad behaviour of the kind Vince Taliana and Erin Tanti are exposing children too, does not sound right for schools who have children who are minors and who are easily influenced.

  36. Disgusted says:

Why does this even bother you DCG? Don’t you have anything better to do? While you enjoy yourself writing pointless articles and blogs, others have what I believe it is called a hobby. The only difference is that you are disgusting me and many others while these people are not bothering anyone. To the extend, I believe that what Mr. Taliana said about you is actually quite true, and I don’t see how his Facebook and his hobbies affects how he approaches and deals with his students. [Daphne – While I truly sympathise with you in this situation, I really have to wonder why you are posting messages to your father on this website rather than telephoning him to say this or saying it face to face. It is not what people say about your father that is bad, though it is obviously upsetting. It is what he is doing and has done that is bad. Rather than projecting your anger onto those who criticise, justifiably, his behaviour, you really need to take it up with him and ask him to begin behaving differently and in a manner appropriate to somebody who is supposed to be raising two children.]

  43. new faux liberals says:

Yes, the models may be over 18 but that means nothing. It is the obvious references to underage sexual activity, whether hetero or homosexual, which is the issue here.

What you have written about is something people rarely write about for fear of being labelled over-zealous, or even worse, ‘homophobic’.

A Muslim friend of mine once found himself sharing a room in a sharehouse with a forty-year old homosexual man. That in itself was not a problem. The problem was that this man had pictures which my friend and I both found absolutely disgusting.

They were pictures of boys of 8-10 lying on a beach naked face-down and away from the camera. By some of the new liberals this would be deemed artistic and, legally speaking at least, pictures that do not reveal genitalia are rarely considered illegal.

But now why would a gay man of forty in a relationship of 5 years with a man of 50 want pictures of naked boys on his wall? Also, why would he display them in a room-share?

  45. L. Sultana says:

I have a feeling that for you, villagers are under class. The models are Curvy and short? Well I can assure that one of those girls you posted there has a 3rd place finish in Miss European bikini competition. And by the way if you ever want to become a serious blogger, blog and discuss topics that really mean something: educate people and offer different perspectives. You should have never put photos no matter what the terms and conditions are. If your comments are directed towards one particular person keep within the lines. If you had any ethics you wouldn’t even put those pictures there especially when accusing someone else. So if you have some buon senso, take the pictures of those ladies away and do not include them in your blogging. Sadly enough I am sure you wont. But you can prove some people that you are not the monster that everyone thinks you are. If you are writing about Vince keep your discourse on Vince and do not involve innocent people in such story

[Daphne – Monsters are people who abuse children and teenagers, not necessarily sexually, and not those who expose them.]

    • L. Sultana says:

Agree with you, but you should have had a much longer answer to such a long comment. Wonder Why you didn’t…. If you are calling Vince a monster, take the pictures of the models of this story because they have nothing to do with it. That was one of my points.

[Daphne – Because I’m busy, L. Sultana, and my patience with irresponsible idiots is wearing thin. It is not my responsibility to explain the basics to you. I am not your mother or your teacher and you are not a child. Grow up and evolve under your own steam. ]

  46. Dicky Cliffs says:

The man in the pool, staring at that silver weight, lighter than a glass of water, needs to go to the gym.

  47. L. Sultana says:

If Vince is guilty for this he deserves to be penalised emphatically, but the models up here have nothing to do with the topic and you know it. You re just an abuser of democratic principles such freedom of whatever it is, you call it speech, I call idiotness in your case. You call people to grow up lol il malti jghid: il-hmar iwahhal f denbu

    • Likety-Like says:

Jekk ser iddahhal il-Malti, il-proverbju Malti jghid ukoll:

‘Ghidli ma’ min taghmilha u nghidlek x’int’.
      ‘Skond iz-zokk, il-fergha’
      ‘Ma min taghmilha, issir bhalu’.

La l-mudelli marru, sinjal li ihobbu joqoghdu. X’tahseb?

Mela l-Malti fejn jaqbel lilkom? Mela Malta tieghek biss?

  48. The man taught me biology in secondary school and was also often present at after-school activities. He always acted professionally around me. More than that, he helped me appreciate and grow to love science. Back then he effectively kept his personal and professional life separate; which in this case I believe is all you can as for as an employer or “consumer” (for lack of a better word).

I think that it’s very cruel to draw such a speculative picture of a person and I question whether this was truly done because of your great calling for public service, or whether you just needed a pawn to be able to write an article with that whopper final paragraph you have up there.

You have such a big readership that are surely aware that regardless of whether Vince Taliana has done anything illegal or unethical or not, you’ve ruined his life. So could you clarify whether it was worth the cost? – do you genuinely believe that you’ve saved/ alerted the general public form/ to a threat?

[Daphne – I see that you belong to the band of people who think that it’s not a person’s own actions which ruin his own life, but the actions of those who expose them. His life isn’t remotely ruined anyway. He is happily wittering away on Facebook as usual.

It is absolutely irresponsible of you to reason that just because he was all right with you then he was probably all right with others. In situations like this, involving children, the guiding principle is always to err on the side of caution.

What shocks me most, really, is not Taliana’s actions and behaviour, but the failure of so many people, including you, to see the screamingly obvious signs of perversion and a sick sexuality, and to assume that it is all right to put somebody like that in charge of children.]

    • I don’t think he’s done anything that he needs to take responsibility for. But you might have.

I only have multiple personal observations, but that beats your speculations.

[Daphne – Andrew, mine are personal observations too, and they are made from a position of greater advantage than yours because my life experience is twice yours and in mentioning only life experience I am being kind. Manipulative people are, by definition, always nice, kind, sweet and marvellous because if they were not, they wouldn’t be able to worm their way in and get what they want.

You are a very young man and you think Vince Taliana is marvellous. I am a woman of 49 who has seen a fair bit of life and has sons older than you are, and what I see is an extremely creepy man of dysfunctional sexuality, with a marked predisposition towards exerting power and influence over adolescents and with a rather unsavoury interest in adolescent boys. He is my age. People our age do not willingly seek out the company of teenagers or get a kick out of associating with them. That’s why they don’t think we’re marvellous, and that’s exactly how it should be. If I had gone home at the age of 15 to rave to my mother about how very wonderful teacher X or Y was, she would have been immediately on the alert, and rightly so.

Men in their 40s who are addicted to dressing teenagers up and filming or photographing them are not to be allowed anywhere near children or teenagers because that is not a hobby but the outward manifestation of a psycho-sexual problem. In other words, it is not something they can put away and bring out to play with in their spare time. It is their state of being. It is the equivalent of making an alcoholic a salesman in a bottle shop. Most of the time he might be able to resist, but then one day he’ll crack. The difference is that children and teenagers are not bottles of alcohol, and the consequences are far different.]

I question how genuine your ‘action’ is. I’m certain that the authorities won’t budge because of a blog – It’s not a police report; which is the way to go about such serious accusations.

You have given fodder for the public (who love a witch hunt) because you’re uncomfortable with your own interpretation of his pictures and sexuality.

[Daphne – It is extremely unwise, Andrew, for somebody who is barely out of his teens to imagine he knows more about sex and sexuality than a woman of almost 50, and to attempt to give lessons himself or teach her something he thinks he might know that she does not. Some people make the cardinal error of equating their personal discovery of sex with a general discovery of something new, unique and previously unknown. Don’t be one of them. Have the intelligence to assume that those who came before you found out before you did, and have had a much longer time to understand much more than you do. So instead of dissing them, listen to them. And I most certainly don’t mean Vince Taliana, who is a pervert.]

      • I maintain that you are making serious accusations on weak grounds. I respect your age, just not all your extrapolations – specifically that age brings about otherwise unattainable insights and that photoshoots bring about disgusting sociopathies.

    • Dicky Cliffs says:

Andrew, if you bothered to follow the facts in the most obvious logical pattern, you would have realised that people reported Vince Taliana:

      a) his behavioural patterns at school
      b) his behavioural patterns outside schools
      c) his bit-on-the side business
      d) the Facebook drama

      to Daphne.

There’s nowhere mentioned that she went out to look for this teacher herself and I don’t think she’d care to either. These people are time-consuming leeches.

As in the previous cases, not one person but a multitude of people came in to comment about the very odd behaviour.

If I see comments flocking in, from different sources, the obvious for me to do is to think there is a problem and I very much support this site for so far, it has been the only one that managed to bring important issues to our attention.

  49. Quebramar Dive Antarctica 2010 says:

I bet there’ll be more cases like these in the near future. Their salary at the end of the month is just a bit more than what a full-time cleaner employed with a private company, makes.

Don’t get me wrong. I’d rather be a cleaner than a full-time teacher who just can’t get the basic forms of ethics right.

Being paid little for working till 2 just makes them frustrated in my opinion so it gets out of hand.

Look at them, almost all have a part-time job – some jobs are decent like teaching private lessons, some just entertain us with rubbish on Facebook = Erin Tanti, and some just get paid for organising contests and beauty pageants.
