Abuse doesn’t even begin to describe it

party

Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando, who was made chairman of the Malta Council for Science and Technology for the same reasons John Dalli was made European Commissioner (both with the inevitable disastrous consequences) has celebrated his fifth anniversary as chairman with a party at his own home, organised by his personal assistant who is also his girlfriend, to which all staff were invited.

And then he posts about it on Facebook, knowing it is all completely wrong but defying anybody to do something about it.

For those who need things spelled out for them:-

1. chairmen of corporations, still more chairmen of state councils, do not celebrate the number of years they have been in the post, with parties or otherwise;

2. chairmen of state councils do not throw state-council-related parties in their own home;

3. when chairmen of privately-owned/publicly-listed corporations (not state councils) throw work-related parties at their own home, they pay for those parties themselves with their own private funds and do not use company funds for the purpose; company funds are used for company entertainment outside the home;

4. Malta Council for Science and Technology funds are not there to be spent on parties to celebrate the chairman’s five years in the post;

5. Lara Boffa organised the party “at home” and he thanks her publicly, leaving the question open as to whether she organised her boyfriend’s party at home in her capacity as his girlfriend and chatelaine of that home, or in her capacity as his personal assistant at the Council, doing so in working hours and on state council time for which she was paid.

What strikes me most about these individuals is how very unquiet they are – souls in agony and distressed spirits, empty husks looking for the next round of acclaim, approval and ‘love’, relentlessly seeking attention, unable to be quiet and at peace in solitude for longer than half an hour, during which brief time they are posting messages and pictures on Facebook telling you that they are on a peaceful walk or peacefully reading a book or quietly having a cup of coffee. Quite early on in life I understood, somehow, that this was the definition of hell on earth.
