CHOGM: they spent TWICE the €7 million they said it would cost
In an interview two years ago, the Foreign Minister told the Times of Malta that told the Times of Malta that the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2015 would cost €7 million.
But the numbers which the government finally published today show that they spent TWICE that amount – and rest assured that they will have hidden many of the expenses by palming them off on the budgets of various ministries and state corporations.
And in case you’re wondering how much the Gonzi government spent on the far more elegantly organised CHOGM in 2005, it was Lm2.6 million – which is just a tad over €6 million. That would have been what this government based its €7 million budget on – but then they went wild with the hamalli li qatt ma raw xejn spending and all that dumping of cronies on the payroll and corrupt friends of friends on the take.
