Maltastar has written the plot for a (tedious) episode of Eastenders, complete with pub. See beneath.

No to ‘immature’ Cyrus

The infighting between Nationalist councillors in Sliema shows no sign of subsiding.

A motion of no confidence has been tabled in Cyrus Engerer, insisting that he should not become deputy mayor because he lacked maturity.

The motion has the backing of both Nicky Dimech, who Engerer helped to oust as Mayor, and Councillor Sandra Camilleri, who resigned from PN after saying she was intimidated at a meeting in the Lady Di pub. It has also been signed by a PN Councillor, Edward Cuschieri, and three Labour councillors. They all favour Cuschieri for the post.

Engerer had expected to succeed Joanna Gonzi, who was elevated to Mayor when Dimech was ousted. Dimech admitted in a police statement soliciting a bribe on a council tender, but later said the admission was made under duress.

Obviously it’s a tit for tat. You have to be street wise for that, no Bruges university will teach these things to our Cyrus.

BTW Sliema’s population is dwindling at a very fast rate I heard.

  2. Antoine Vella says:

So, an “immature” person cannot become deputy mayor. How about Leader of the Opposition?

  3. Stephen Forster says:

I thought the name was a wind up!

  4. Rainbow Warrior says:

I think Kurt Farrugia’s and Joseph Muscat’s real problem with Cyrus Engerer is that he’s gay.

They can’t stand the thought of the Nationalist Party having the first openly gay mayor. It’s bad enough that the PN has the first openly gay MP.

And Labour, the liberal party, has none. Instead it has such leading lights of liberalism as Marlene Pullicino, Adrian Vassallo and Michael Falzon – and a leader whose carefully cultivated metrosexual liberal image has been grossly undermined by the news that his father is a leading fireworks merchant.

So which one is really the partit tal-moffa u l-valuri tal-passat?

What happend to the MLP LGBT group, or whatever it was called?

      • LGBT Lejber says:

        It was called LGBT Labour.

They are holed up somewhere working on a press release in defence of Mr. Engerer.

They are getting some advice about the wording from the IGM (“attakk fahxi u viljakk”) and whoever wrote that article for Joseph Muscat in The Sunday Times this past Sunday (expect some words to draw a lot of sympathy).

  5. ciccio2010 says:

Is Mr. Edward Cuschieri mature enough to sign a motion of no confidence, claiming lack of maturity by another person, when Mr. Cuschieri himself is interested in the post?

In my opinion, this amounts to a conflict of interest, and Mr. Cuschieri should have refrained from signing the motion given his interest.
But then, if he had not signed, the motion would have no chance of being carried.

  6. Dem-ON says:

One table and one motion gone missing from Sliema area.

  7. H.P. Baxxter says:

So they built a table inside Cyrus Engerer and managed to fit all the council around it, right?

  8. Hibernating from Malta says:

Although Maltastar is very frequently catastrophic, I suspect this has been done on purpose. A great majority of their mistakes are made because of literal translations from Maltese.

In this case, this is not a literal translation, because it would have been against/kontra. I suspect it’s the usual twisted “being homophobic to show how liberal and cool we are” mentality at its best.

…and yet, the pub is gone and so is Peggy. Poor Maltastar…

  10. chavsRus says:

But the “bottom line” is that, in the PN led Sliema Local Council (where the PN only a short while ago, had an 8-3 majority) the farce goes on …….

And Ugo Fantozzi a.k.a. Paul Borg Olivier is still the PN Gen Sec…….

[Daphne – It’s not a farce, dear Chav, but only covered like a farce by sections of the media incapable of doing anything else. Key to good reportage: have an instinct for where people’s boredom threshold begins and ends.]

    • H.P. Baxxter says:

Spot on. Contrary to what Labour may think, the antics inside the boardroom (surely ‘bored room’, Ed.) of some obscure local council are not on anyone’s list of Important Issues in Daily Life.

  11. LG says:

    “elevated to Mayor”?
