Is Labour more equal than others?

Muammar Gaddafi, Dom Mintoff and Lorry Sant on 31 March 1979, the day the British left and Gaddafi moved in. And they call it Freedom Day.

timesofmalta.com reports:

The Labour Party also announced that it had appointed a committee headed by deputy leader Toni Abela to work with the Mintoff family on the building of a monument for the former prime minister. The committee will also be responsible for activities, publications and other events in honour of Mr Mintoff.

There they go, taking the law into their own hands as usual, and the fact is reported unquestioningly. You or I couldn’t go around putting up monuments to anyone or anything that takes our fancy. But apparently, the Labour Party can.

It has decided that there is to be a monument to Mintoff, and without going through the legal requirements, the planning and approvals process, or the necessary consultation, it has announced this as a fait accompli.

It’s bad enough that Ronnie Pellegrini, that little turd, got away with putting up a monument to the hideously corrupt Lorry Sant, whose henchman he was. Now we’ve got a bronze Lorry for eternity.

I have a suggestion: put the bronze Mintoff next to it, with a noose around its neck and the other end in Lorry’s hand. As in life, so in death.

Are they going to have a competition for the monument design, followed by SMS voting?

There is a monument in Luqa ‘erected’ already, the head is missing though. I am sure something could be fixed there.

Well done to the PL. Malta badly needs more spaces where dog-owners can take their pets to do their business without fouling the pavement.

  4. Aunt Hetty says:

They do not need to worry about permits because in a few months’ time, they will be telling the MEPA what to do.

  5. A Lady says:

I heard that in the 1970s the English did not stay in Malta because Mintoff was asking them a ridiculous amount of money to leave their base in Malta. Is this true? If it’s true, it’s a much more different version of the story that I’ve heard, i.e. that Mintoff THREW the English out of Malta. I would like to know the truth.

[Daphne – I think that at this point I really should lie down and weep. OF COURSE IT’S TRUE. IT’S DOCUMENTED HISTORY. I’ve written about it several times, too.]

  6. If my memory serves me right, Mintoff did not get one penny more from the Brititsh Government. It was the NATO who paid the bill. Subject to correction.

Dear Lady – please – there was a contract that expired – just like when you hire a house and the contact expires – you just have to leave – not kicked out

Sure a monument to Mintoff sounds like a great idea.
Somewhere within the dock 1 project would be an ideal location for it.

  9. Herbie says:

The British were not ready to fork out a single penny more than that agreed to in 1964. It was Germany, Italy and France that forked out the shortfall since they were afraid Mintoff would get the Russians on their doorstep.

But this is all useless. These people or their parents were brought up in the Brigata Laburosta and they are all in denial seeing from their posts in this blog.
