Comment of the Morning

Sent in by Plutarch:

Life under Labour is indeed colourful, and even amusing were it not so tragic for Malta.

A motley bunch of upstarts, opportunists, dinosaurs, thugs, wannabes, grabbers, ‘morti di fame’, failures, incompetents, paranoids, has-beens, Commies, drama queens, grudge-bearers and general arrivistes.

Only this time it will not last 16 Golden Years, but five years and back to the humdrum life under the Nats. So make the best of it, Grabbers. Grab, grab and grab even more, while there is still enough space left for yet more snouts in the trough.

Fingers crossed about the ‘five years’ estimate.

Every so often Malta needs a reminder of just how good it has it and what a spoilt bunch of whiners we are. Which is where Labour’s raison d’etre comes in.

Couldn’t agree more Ramona! Sometimes, people get complacent and used to living the “good life” that for the slightest of reasons, they decide to rebel…. God forbid we have a repetition of Mintoff’s era! At least Merkel and the rest of the EU are watching JM like a hawk.

I think that five years is wishful thinking. It will be at least ten unless something horrible happens.

By horrible I mean that it is very likely that within the next five years MuscatLP will cast the island back to the economic dark ages.

The people will suffer a fate worse than the 1970s and the 1980s. At least, in those days, the Lira had some value on the international exchange markets because of a relatively rich gold reserve.

I do not want to think what would happen with the onslaught of a recession in the style of Greece, Spain and others.

It won’t be Malta taghna lkoll then – it’ll be “Flee! Run for your lives” and very cruel austerity measures under the Nats.

The sad thing is that in these five years they will f**k up the golden opportunity for Malta which comes under the name of European Capital of Culture.

  5. Min Jaf says:

The way they are all at it, they will have burnt themselves, and the economy, out long before the lapse of five years.

Cartoon from 1950s, but still relevant http://imgur.com/nFolPy4

If only this were the 24 hour Greek tragedy. They probably think they are the vultures.
