“Mrs Malmstrom, youre treathen Malta as a sandwich”
More delights from EU Commissioner Malmstrom Facebook page:
Alexander Vella
mrs malmstrom , i understand how youre treathen malta as a sándwich. because when u have your own interest you find the terrotory of malta and know u leave everyone getting pis in our island. i dont mean the kosovos and bosnians that arrived in your country sweden for woman or for asylum also??? maybe you one of them that you like these people, so why ur not going to solve this problem for a small island of malta ? what about if turkey joins eu …..and happens the same from baltic countries ….u think they shut up ..or they send them to muslim country (with all my respect)?? whats sense of eu when we eat in the same plate….”

Can you translate into English please?
And then Mr. Vella was probably proud of the fact that he “spowk in d inglish”
Mr. Vella’s English is very much like maltastar’s in the days of Glen Bedingfield.
Kif jahdmuha l-istatistika, l-UE, meta jghidu li 90% ta’ Malta bilingual?
Klassi
Oh dear, at first glance I thought the title was written in Shakespearean English.
It’s Chaucer, darling.
Lanqas biss jafu jisthu. Min jaf kemm tkessah is-sur Vella meta qal lil shabu li ghamel koment fuq Ms Malmstorm.
L-unika haga tajba hi li jekk sabet hin biex taqra dan il-comment, ma fehmet xejn ghaliex niktub b’lingua li jifhem is-sur Vella biss.
Qabda PRUZUNTUZI. Jahsbu li ghax kapaci joqghodu bilqeghda quddiem keyboard tal-computer allura kapaci jiktbu. Probabbli ssib ukoll li lanqas jafu – jew insew – kif izommu lapes jew biro f’idejhom!
Il-veru kaz li jwaqqghulek wiccek l-art u tiddispra meta tiftakar li bid-demokrazija daw’ in-nies ghandhom il-vot. Imma minkejja l-injoranza evidenti taghhom, il-pruzunzjoni tigi mill-arja li nghataw (jew li jhossu li nghataw) mill-fatt li issa hemm il-gvern li vvutaw ghalih u allura jhossuhom ’empowered’.
“You sow the wind and you harvest the whirlwind.” U diga bdejna nhossu l-effett tieghu. Forsi xi darba n-nies jitghallmu. It-tfal ma jemmnux li n-nar jahraq qabel ma jippruvawh u jmissuh b’idejhom.
Tghid is-sangwic tas-Sur Vella bil-bulubif kien?
“Dear Commissioner Malmstrom,
It is humbly submitted that the European Union and its Member States have failed to pay due regard to the needs of Malta. Indeed, it appears that, in the event of a conflict between the interests of Malta and those of other States, Maltese interests are trod upon.
While I acknowledge that Sweden has, in the past, been particularly welcoming to refugees from Bosnia and Kosovo, and while your sympathy for the cause of refugees may suggest personal affinity with the matter, I implore you to recognise the peculiar needs of a small country such as Malta.
What is more, the pressures caused by immigration may grow exponentially in the foreseeable future if Turkey joins the Union. Further, there appears to be a significant degree of emigration of Russian minorities in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. Given current circumstances, it is unlikely that these problems will be resolved, or that the neighbours of the European Union will be in a position to contribute to an appropriate solution.
In sum, in the current circumstances, it is understandable that the full benefits of the European Union may be called into question.
Kind regards,
Alexander Vella”
Translator’s note:
(i) Mr Vella, please learn to think before you write. And please learn to write before you write. Sod it. Mr Vella, please do not write.
(ii) Prime Minister, your impossibly stupid ‘joke’ about Sweden taking in immigrants has contributed to the miseducation that you so ably developed as a SuperOne propagandist. The Commissioner does not represent Sweden. Actually, she is barred from representing the interests of Sweden. Notwithstanding John Dalli’s obscene behaviour in the past three years, she should not engage in Swedish politics. She represents the Union.
Seriously, what the f**k is he saying? “With all my respect”, how can these people be trusted with a vote?
I cannot understand what he is trying to say. People reading these comments on Malmstöm’s FB page will definitely not send their children to Malta to learn English.
Some other pearls from the same Facebook page:
Rae Celeste: ” words written on sandy waters”
Laura Ferrito: “preach what you teach”
Long Duck Dong: “the exponentially low figure”
Maria Vella: “You don’t worth a penny from what you talk about”
Ma nafx kif jridu li Malstorm tifimhom. Lanqas jien li naf bil-Malti ma nista naghmel dak.
Can you please decipher this code?
It would have been better if Alexander Vella wrote in Maltese because Mrs Malmstrom would have understood him more easily.
Oh my, how I wish I could leave this island. Unfortunately it is too late for me but I sincerely hope my kids will move onto better pastures.
Me better jump cliff cos dis I don’t stand no more.
I despair at the thought of how many people are laughing at us.
As a relative of mine would aptly put it, ” If these people had half a brain they would be dangerous “.
If they can vote, they are already too dangerous.
I am not at all surprised by the level of English. Even Maltese is written atrociously and I don’t mean only the orthography.
TVM makes hundreds of mistakes in Maltese every day, including in news bulletins.
Recently, I drew the newsroom’s attention to the fact that “triq biezla” (as it was stated on different occasions in the news) does not mean a “busy road” but a “hard-working road” — an absurdity.
I chose only one mistake out of hundreds in the hope they would appoint a script-writer well-versed in Maltese. They haven’t yet.
Yesterday’s news stated “pediment” instead of the intended “pedament” when “pediment” is an architectural term.
When I hear someone boast of the Maltese being very adept at speaking languages, I manage to suppress a laugh.
In my neighbourhood, every other family hosts foreign English-language students. Every morning, I go to buy bread and I meet housewives stocking up on bread-rolls to prepare for “l-istudenti”. Some have little kids in tow and speak to them in what they believe is English.
I shudder to think how they communicate with the “studenti”.
The original idea was that hosting families would help in the learning of English by creating an English-speaking environment but demand for host families has completely done away with this notion. Now they are offering a bed and breakfast service.
How is it possible that hundreds of millions of euro have been spent on education in the last decades with such pitiful results?
There it goes again a second ago on the news: “gzira Ghawdxija”. This mistake is now in such general currency that nobody bothers to check the logic of the term.
You can call Gozo a “gzira Maltija” and it would be correct but you cannot qualify the island by means of an adjective derived from its own name. Difficult to explain.
Ghawdwxi is an inhabitant of Gozo. The adjective may also describe a characteristic of a thing connected with Gozo but it cannot describe the island itself as the adjective originates in its very name.
Can someone explain this better than I and convince politicians, journalist and the public alike not to say “Gzira Ghawdxija” but simply “Ghawdex”? Jesus, how people just pick up mistakes uncritically.
[Daphne – It’s simply explained by using English: Gozitan island vs the island of Gozo (not the same thing as Gozo’s island).]
Don’t get me started.
“il-lingwa Maltija” > IL-MALTI
“ix-xahar ta’ Awwissu” > AWWISSU
Oh and “il-poplu Malti u Ghawdxi” > Il-MALTIN
And let us not forget: “certi bloggers prominenti” > DAPHNE CARUANA GALIZIA
Which schools did these people attend? Who taught them how to write. or are they just under literate beings who presume that they know it all.
During election meetings ‘Joeseph’ may have stopped them from ridiculing him with their red flags and obscenities, but it seems he cannot control what they write and how they think. unless its a tactic to undermine EU sentiment.
And they buy iPads and whatnot for their children.
