Joe Mifsud – from TVM to feeling important ‘fil-Palestina’

I need to look serious

A lot of you are asking what in God’s name Joe Mifsud – who used to co-host TVAM with Pierre Portelli and who now discusses the newspapers on the same show with Manuel Micallef’s squeeze and that man called Pablo – was doing as part of the prime minister’s delegation to Israel and the PLO.

Ah, that’s because you don’t remember him in his previous incarnation as a gurnalist tal-Partit Laburista, in the days before he graduated in law, when his special subject of interest was the PLO and he wrote about it all the time.He became the self-appointed expert on Palestinian affairs.

Oh, and the last time I looked, he was one of Suha Arafat’s lawyers. For those with short memories or poor general knowledge, she’s Yasser Arafat’s widow and Yasser Arafat was the PLO leader whose face and headgear were as universally recognised as those of the contemporaneous Diana, Princess of Wales. She lives in Malta, and has done so ever since her husband died. Her brother is the Palestinian ambassador to Malta.

Oh I remember him all right. Well enough to point out that you missed something in your thumbnail sketch of Joe Mifsud.

He spent his honeymoon in Gaza and the West Bank.

Glad to see they’ve kept the only element on TVAM that consistently used to turn my stomach. Even more glad that I don’t follow TVAM any more.

PM’s trips – wife, beautician, hairdresser, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Tourism Minister, former Public Works Minister, any other minister wishing to join, anyone with interest in visiting that country, XARABANK – u ejjjaueooooioooo.

Will any Opposition MP ask which travel agency is supplying these air tickets?

Is-sabiha hi li qabel l-elezzjoni meta kien jipprezenta TVAM mas-Sur Portelli tghidx kemm kien joqghod lura kif jitkellem fuq il-Partit Laburista imma kien jikkritika hafna lil kellimha tal-PN.

Hekk kif il-PL rebah l-elezzjoni, il-folja inqalbet u dan l-avukat fetah halqu izjed u hlief kliem ta’ tifhir lil PL ma ghamilx.

Kullhadd beda jiehu promotions ghax jew deheru fuq billboards jew tkellmu f’xi meetings etc, imma dan l-avukat ghax qabel kellu halqu maghluq miskin ma akkwista xejn hlief din s-safra ghax hu tal-midhla go Gaza.

I have a feeling that Mrs Suha Arafat will be one of the first to pay 650,000 euros for a Maltese passport.

Labour’s double standards are rampant. Can you imagine what they would have said about a TVM Nationalist leaning journalist/presenter participating in a Gonzi led delegation abroad?

Muscat’s not bored. That’s him doing a Mussolini impression. Apparently Muscat is making quite a hit imitating famous politicians. Pity that he is impeccable only at imitating the notorious ones.

  8. Galian says:

And what about Freddie Micallef’s son right there at the back, looking like one of this big soft toys chavs buy and pop in a corner in their kids’ bedroom?

  9. Osservatore says:

My favourite sub-literate journalist, probably rejoicing in the sound of his own incomprehensible attempts at making a self-important speech. Possibly an interesting person to share a peach Melba with at the Mosta bocci club but by far, his communication skills are nowhere near those you’d expect a journalist to have, let alone a lawyer.
