Manuel Mallia signs a Memorandum of Understanding with Libya just as HSBC pulls out of that country

HSBC

Yesterday, our interior minister signed a memorandum of understanding with his Libyan counterpart that is not worth the paper it is written on. Imma l-aqwa li ghandna l-headline, hux.

Twenty-four hours later, we get the news that HSBC is pulling out of Libya. The bank moves out, but Manny really thinks he’s moving in.

Where are all Dalli John’s friends and contacts there? Are they dead or in prison? Have they been shot at dawn? They must have been, or he’d be featuring heavily in this Libya game, trying to get in and grub some money.

But maybe he thinks there’s far more to be made in China.
