  1. M Falzon says:

As long as you give il-poplu Eu25 token because you are kept in the dark for few hours, 10% discount sale off the uniform price (which has seen a reduction in quality as well) and Eu25 deduction on electrical bills, then everything is fine.

    • Gahan says:

Excuse me for being a nitpicker; €25 will be given to some 8,000 households, the money will come from the taxes the rest of the people paid, and who were left in the dark and got nothing.

      • H.P. Baxxter says:

Jonathan Swift once wrote a ditty about how little fleas have fleas that bite ’em. Allow me to nitpick your nitpicking.

Those 25 Euros will also be paid for from the taxes of those 8000 households, so they are in fact subsidising their own iced bun. Viva Malta, hey, hey!

All subsidies, freebies, free concerts, and 25 Euro cheques are paid for by us citizens. The taxpayers. The Nationalist administration attempted to explain this when it removed the subsidy on bread and paraffin. There was almost a national riot and it decided to forgo any explanation in the face of the supreme stupidity of the people.

Fast forward to 2014, and the entire nation is hailing Konrad’s “monetary gift” (will be appreciated).

        Viva Malta stupida.

  2. Gobsmacked says:

    What are personal emoluments?

    • Antoine Vella says:

They include iced buns. A whole bakery of iced buns.

    • observer says:

In our case, they can best be described as:- “Substantial sops from tax-payers’ money to top cronies – in settlement of personal favours enabling one to acquire power”

    • MFIN says:

Pagi u benificcji tal-haddiema fis-settur pubbliku. Dawk li Gonzi kien naqqas ghax Alfred kien jghidlu li ha nfallu!

      • Nana says:

Please could you tell what benefits Gonzi decreased because I work in the civil sector and so far I didn’t notice any decrease in my salary. Under the nationalist government every year we had a rise in our salary according to the collective agreement we had with the government.

      • Clueless says:

        They exclude pillows and sheets.

      • H.P. Baxxter says:

Oh dear od. A Nazzjonalista who is so blinded by love for Gonzi that she mistakes positive commentary for negative.

Lawrence Gonzi decreased the number of employees in the public sector. Therefore, the sum total of public payroll salaries decreased. And that’s good in any economy.

        Geddit?

  3. T. Orsini says:

Personal Emolument is the payment of pensions, allowances,
gratuities and salaries to those who work with the government. This position would be civil servants and government officials.

  4. Francis Said says:

These are all worrying factors. My worry is that they are seriously playing around with our democracy.

    1. The motion of the impeachment of Judge sports, never debated in Parliament. My theory is that the PL never wanted this motion to reach that stage, as probably they would have voted against impeachment. Ergo who cares about the Commission for the Administration of Justice!

    2. The reluctance to disclose the relevant documents and contracts with Henley & Co., and the Enemalta privatisation!

    3. The postponement of LC elections – to postpone the referendum on Spring hunting!

    4. Mockery of Statistics – lies damned lies and statistics!

    5. A cabinet that is just a puppet on a string!

    6. The PM who thinks he is some sort of world leader!

    7. Complete mismanagement in all Ministries and Government entities!

    8. A Kilkka of 2,000 soldiers of steel!

    9. Lateral transfers of the old guard and incompetents awarded high positions, then found wanting!

    10. Absolutely no ideas to bring foreign productive investment, producing productive employment!

    11. Deflation – a sign of recession, that means that the low wage earner and pensioner might end up without an increase. If there is deflation, the MCESD has no justifiable reason to increase the minimum wage!

I am sure there are many more points to add to the above.

  5. Swiftian says:

The 25 euros for having been in the dark for a few hours is an investment intended to hoodwink certain people into staying in the dark for much longer than that.
