An eyewitness account of an ETC inspection at Leisure Clothing in 2009

The following account was not anonymous, but for the purposes of publication, it will have to be.

Back in 2009, an Employment & Training Corporation (ETC) inspection was conducted at Leisure Clothing.

On our arrival there a very disturbing reaction was triggered. Lots of hassles and movements were noted.

Computer records were requested immediately, before they were tampered with, and the manager, Bin Han, was called in quickly.

The atmosphere got quite heavy as the factory’s management tried to convince the inspection team that everything was in order. It looked more and more suspicious.

Not many employees were seen but there was a bad feeling that something was amiss and was not being understood. The Chinese employees present had a very strange look in their eyes, as if they were trying to say something.

Meantime, at the rear end of the factory, two Chinese were apprehended as they were trying to escape in a van. They were found to be without a work permit and were handed over immediately to the police, who formed part of the inspection team.

During the inspection, a woman who had claimed to be a GWU shop steward continuously screamed at the inspection team, using foul language at the inspectors and the accompanying police officers.

This woman did her best to hinder the inspection, shouting that the inspection team should go after the real abusers, and leave hardworking and honest people like them in peace.

Following Bin Han’s phone calls, the inspection was eventually called off by E.T.C. Head Office. Seeing all this now, it comes to mind that John Dalli was then the minister responsible for the E.T.C.

Snus scandal update: It seems like Gayle Kimberly is moving to the US. Her husband is asking for advice on Facebook about it.

Tell him that the United States has enough sleazy lawyers to last an eternity, we don’t need any more.

That’s what happens when you burn all your bridges in Europe.

Obama, who has just been trashed by the US voters during yesterday’s mid-term elections has let in 100s of 1000s of illegal Mexican immigrants. So I recommend to this couple to fly to the nearest Mexican side airport then take a hike across the border. Better hurry because now both Congress and Senate are Republican

    Not surprised at all.

Inappropriate intervention from politicians in situations such as this was and is still common in Malta.

Politicians who over-ride our laws and procedures in the course of work in the most abusive and irresponsible way is a form of corruption.

Shame on such politicians who apply two ways and two measures.

This form of governance is still going on. This is de-motivational to the right-thinking group of people who are paid to do a job. In real terms this leaves negative energy.

This is the screaming “woman” in question: Josephine Scerri.

She’s a factory worker, but was self-elected and appointed GWU shop steward at Leisure Clothing. She’s always scurrying around doing no work and wasting time.

Who was in government in 2009? Please tell us.

[Daphne – I don’t know why you’re asking, given that it’s the very point of my post here: John Dalli.]

  6. Gee Dee says:

This Josephine Scerri is a rabid Mintoffian from Marsa and she’s been in that factory for ages. She’s really foul-mouthed, that’s true.

Who would ever have thought that John Dalli is so corrupt. Surely Eddie Fenech Adami did not know about his dirty work.

John succeeded in misleading even him, who anyhow did not vote for Dalli in the Nationalist Party’s leadership election.

  9. P Bonnici says:

Why was this GWU woman not arrested and charged with perverting the course of justice and obstruction of police investigations?
