Air Malta Minister paired with ‘bottoms up’ Qormi mayor for press conference to call Opposition leader false and a liar

The cabinet minister responsible for Air Malta, which is on the verge of collapse, took time out of his busy airline-rescue schedule today to pair up with Rosianne Cutajar, the mayor of Qormi, for a dead-horse-flogging press conference in which he banged on about party donations and she called the Opposition leader “false” and “a liar”.

The Labour Party’s technique of giving these anti-Opposition press conferences in pairs is interesting. Miss Cutajar was wheeled out because she is standing for election on the Labour ticket. Since 2013, she has been latched onto the public teat, first with a grace-and-favour position in the organisation office for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2015, and when that ended, she transferred to the Prime Minister’s Office as one of his ‘persons of trust’.

Glenn Bedingfield, her fellow ‘person of trust’ in the Prime Minister’s Office, is also standing for election, but I don’t see a queue of cabinet ministers gagging to sit alongside him at a press conference. And I don’t think it’s only because he keeps his bottom covered and they’re not interested in getting a close look at it anyway.

Today, we should debate the motion ‘Mayors and others who hold public office should keep their pants on in public.’ No wonder ED ZL was more interested in spending time sitting next to the Prime Minister’s person of trust to call the Opposition leader a liar than he was spending time sorting out the Air Malta catastrophe.
