What does Hardrock Silvio plan to do with the registration of his brand-new Maserati

This was a reader’s comment this morning, which needs to be highlighted in a post of its own.

That is a 66-Reg Maserati – a model which was launched recently, in RHD at least. 66-Reg cars are registered any time between 01/09/2016 and 28/02/2017. This particular one was registered in January 2017.

This makes the vehicle less than 6 months old, and almost certainly has delivery mileage only, which classifies it as a brand-new car not a second-hand car, costing much more in registration taxes than a second-hand vehicle.

But with the help of some people in government and/or tax authorities, Debono may end up registering it as second-hand and saving substantial sums of money.

Debono may be allowed to drive it on UK plates for the next 5 months, then when it is 6-months old, he will register it as second-hand. Or register it now as new, and get some form of rebate in another way.
Someone needs to keep an eye out.
