Diesel smugglers, people smugglers, visa fixers – you just have to wonder why Malta has a Secret Service at all and what the hell it is they’re doing most of the time.
Carmelo aka Charles Grech – who has been caught in Libya, apparently carrying more than a quarter of a million euros in cash and in the company of a Jordanian and a couple of Algerians – is a shifty fixer who should have been known to the Malta police and monitored by the Secret Service.
Instead they let things go so far that he ends up caught in Libya and then suddenly he’s a major diplomatic problem which requires large amounts of resources to solve.
